Summer Intern - Sales Finance

Position Purpose

The Intern is placed in one position assigned to one department in either Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Solutions, Marketing or Supply Chain Management. This position gives the student challenging projects and tasks to coincide with the Intern’s academic program and/or career interest. It also allows for broad exposure to the organization with supervision and mentoring, which creates a professional network and real-life work experiences.  All the information below applies unless otherwise specified by the department responsibilities, skills and/or requirements.

  • Understanding of Supply Chain function and processes
  • Forecast management with SAP ECC

Essential Duties

Responsibilities and potential tasks/projects*:

Accounting

  • Develops a system to file and retrieve accounting data; data consists of electronic and paper documents
  • Assists in the organization and development of a system to track and monitor leases, required for the new accounting pronouncement
  • General office support for the general accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable teams

 

Finance 

  • Supports the annual planning and forecast process, including validating templates to be utilized in the planning process for sales volume, pricing, revenue, cogs, and expenses
  • Engages in reporting and projects to support the sales divisions as needed, including financial impact analysis
  • Analyzes plan vs. actual expense trends, reporting on spending levels and providing recommendations and insights as needed
  • Reviews promotional activities to assess spend forecasting accuracy; supports coupon account reconciliation and return on investment analysis
  • Provides Ad Hoc analysis 
  • Reviews profitability, gross margin, and outlier pricing activity by brand by state to recommend financial opportunities for Delicato
  • Maintains financial partnerships with Sales Finance team
     

Human Resources

  • Gains strong knowledge and understanding of employee lifecycle (from recruiting to offboarding) with a special project/presentation to focus on this area
  • Supports the HR Department with day-to-day operations including posting jobs, job offers, background checks, and other administrative duties as needed
  • Participates in challenge exercises and practical applications of information learned
  • Analyzes data and prepare materials for presentations or meetings
  • Assists with other special projects as assigned
     

Information Solutions / Information Technology

  • Develops a portfolio of management reports from existing sources for varying audiences, such as data security events & training and management dashboard for operational status of systems
  • Creates a system outage “playbook” to communicate impact and expedite service restoration
  • Assists in system preparations for grape harvest season
  • General office support for the general system and project administration

 

Marketing

  • Supports Marketing Operations Coordinator with ingesting and cataloging large volumes of creative digital assets including effectively uploading, tagging, and storage of assets
  • Assists with digital asset uploads and data entry in Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform, Delicato HUB and Syndigo PIM
  • Collaborates on digital asset taxonomy development and refinement
  • Assists with development of workflow for adding new and existing assets
  • Assists with ad hoc digital tasks which could include data collection, creative content uploads, and website quality checks
  • Provides support for simple image edits and asset management

Non-Essential Duties

Responsibilities and potential tasks/projects continued*:

Supply Chain Management

  • Analyzes order data to assist in identifying inefficient customer ordering patterns
  • Assists in analysis of rejected order lines; breaks down and understands reasons for rejection used on sales orders and identifies any patterns
  • Assists International Customer Service team with various activities including forms and reporting
  • Assists with daily invoicing process
  • Updates contact list
  • Learns daily reports, Esker, KPI, etc.
  • Assists Samples Team as needed
  • Supports Wine Planning and Production Planning as needed

 

Supply Chain Planning

  • Development of sku segmentation analysis, reporting tools and standard work
  • Applies error analysis techniques to improve forecasting accuracy
  • Executes SAP master data audits to ensure accuracy/consistency of reporting
  • Assists with process improvement and master data updates as part of data governance project
  • Supports the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Relevant major or minor course work in Business, Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Supply Chain Management and/or Information Systems
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA, enrolled or entering junior year

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or analytical tools (i.e. MS Excel – usage of pivot tables, charts, etc.); Familiarity with basics of databases
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work during summer semester term, up to 30 hours per week with flexibility during regular business hours

​California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Non-Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $16.25 to $25.00. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
