Position Purpose

The Public Relations and Events Manager helps manage and implement Delicato’s Public Relations and Event strategies to support Delicato’s growing portfolio of brands. The Public Relations and Events Manager will play a key role within the marketing department to develop brand awareness and secure press for brands in addition to executing events. This position will report to the Director, PR and Events and work closely with Delicato’s brand management team, sales team, and various outside agencies and vendors on all PR and events activities.  The primary goal of this position is to execute public relations and events strategies that are consistent with brand objectives to support a 360° marketing approach.

Essential Duties

  • Works with Director, PR and Events, in developing PR plans that align with Brand strategy.
  • Serves as the primary contact for media release creation and distribution and media list management for the various media groups with an emphasis on trade, luxury, lifestyle, and bloggers.
  • Develops content and creates messaging for Brand communications such as media releases, media mailers, and editorial requests.
  • Primary liaison with PR agencies to include day-to-day support and sample requests.
  • Event coordination and onsite management such as registration, set-up, pouring, and tear-down at various trade and consumer events such as Food & Wine Aspen, Pebble Beach Food & Wine, SF Wine Chronicle wine competition, etc.
  • Manage media monitoring and distribution services to include monitoring Brand press activity, communicating success stories and measuring impressions.
  • Manages all media mailings working with box and premium vendors, building the media lists, and working with shipping to order the wine and complete the shipping process. 
  • Works with the PR coordinator on submitting wines for scoring.
  • Develops and updates PR best practice processes such as building and maintaining a media database, and developing score and medal related sales tools such as 90+ score sheets.
  • Manages the PR department subscriptions and memberships such as Parker/Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, PR Newswire, Cision, Burrelles Luce, etc.
  • Ensures all communications messaging that originates in the department is consistent, accurate and grammatically correct across all channels.
  • Works with IS, Corporate Communications and Digital marketing to develop a new user-friendly Delicato Press Room for media to access assets, updated / current company website messaging.
  • Works with Director, PR and Events to manage PR budget.
  • Stays current on new and emerging technologies such as online outlets, bloggers, media monitoring services, etc. and makes strategic recommendations on which ones to utilize for future efforts.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on communications, journalism, marketing, or comparable discipline.

Minimum five years of directly related experience in Public Relations and Events.

PR agency or client PR experience required.

Strong written, presentation and verbal communication skills with proven ability in creative writing (samples required).

Wine industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public relations, excellent writing skills, and a knowledge of current media resources and platforms.

Excellent planning, organization, and verbal/written communication skills.

Excellent presentation skills and comfortable with public speaking.

Enthusiastic, outgoing, detail-oriented, and teamwork-driven attitude.

Current knowledge of media channels, especially in the online community such as bloggers and influencers.

Able to work within a team environment and build cooperative and collaborative relationships with those inside and outside the department.

Advanced computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
