Product Development Packaging Specialist

Position Purpose

Under minimal supervision, the Product Development Packaging Specialist is responsible for overseeing all new product and product change initiatives through the Implementation and Launch phases of the NPD process.  This position coordinates the product development of packaging materials/elements for new brand and products, and manages the tracking of projects from the Implementation phase until they are bottled and moved to Archive status.

This position is critical in contributing towards our company culture of innovation and continuous improvement as well as evolving the company’s products and strategic to meet today’s fast moving business environment.

Essential Duties

  • Manages the complex new product development process for all business units within Delicato for the Implementation and Launch phases
  • Works with Planning, Purchasing, Master Data, Quality Control, Production, and Winemaking to ensure that the project plan containing objectives, product material definitions, financials, SAP configuration information, and timelines for new product and changes to products initiatives is adhered to.
  • Leads weekly NPD update call to track and communicate progress on all new product and product change initiatives with a cross functional team, as well as outside customers as needed.
  • Leads weekly Implementation update call with the greater Supply Chain team to review status of projects in the Implementation and Launch phases.
  • Troubleshoots Implementation and Launch stages of the NPD initiatve to ensure project flows through each phase according to schedule.
  • Identifies potential risks and bottle necks to the project in a timely manner, allowing time to make changes and corrections when needed.
  • Maintains the Document of Record for all New Products, Change Orders and Engineering Change Orders once they have entered the Implementation phase.
  • Provides proactive communication status to the customer and other key stakeholders.
  • Tracks proofs and approvals for packaging materials related to active new product and packaging refresh projects, from receipt, routing, approval and first production.
  • Conducts post-audit when projects are complete and scorecards the results.
  • Manages NPD form, making adjustments according to each project initiative.
  • Influences others within cross functional team to prove high level of quality and efficiency, keeping projects on time and delivering a high level of client satisfaction
  • Brings high level of expertise in project management.
  • Advises and supports Supply Chain on best approaches to deliver desired end-products.

Non-Essential Duties

  • Prepares ad-hoc analysis and tools to provide insight and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provides proactive communication status to the customer and other key stakeholders.
  • Aids in the management of Exceptions across the organization.
  • Responsible for project documentation and project database accuracy
  • Conducts training for new employees on the NPD process and forms as needed.
  • Supports efforts in cost and complexity reductions, suggests alternative material components for Project Champions, identified risk and helps to minimize potential risks.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Supply Chain or a related field. 
  • 3+ years direct or related experience in product development, project management or similar role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have excellent communication skills, demonstrated supervisory skills, and proven problem-solving ability.
  • Possess a high degree of self-motivation and personal responsibility, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Must possess knowledge of MS Office suite.  Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
  • Meticulous approach and polished delivery.
  • Ability to juggle multiple demands. Budget/cost conscious.
  • Problem solving/decision making.
  • Ability and desire to collaborate with coworkers across multiple functional areas.

Office Environment. Some travel required.
