Manager, Commercial Finance

Position Purpose

Under little or no supervision and acting on own initiative, the Commercial Finance Manager supports the overall financial management of all cased goods Sales Divisions, and serves as the financial lead for Direct-to-Consumer.  This position also serves as the liaison to Accounting and oversees all accounting functions for the Commercial Finance team, including coordinating the monthly close process, supporting journal entry preparation and procedures, and managing annual audit requests.

  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, and recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic, ISO, DOE and other applicable training
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment
  • Prepares and monitors department overhead budget

 

Essential Duties

  • Leads the annual planning process as well as periodic latest estimate forecasts for DTC, including detailed budgets and forecasts.
  • Leads the monthly close process, including coordinating across Finance and Accounting to ensure adherence to close calendar and corporate accounting policies, and make recommendations to continue to improve upon processes and procedures. Completes journal entries associated with administrative cost centers and other consolidated case goods needs.
  • Generates, analyzes and distributes reports and analysis monthly to support DTC and administrative cost centers within Case Goods, providing an overview of business financial results as well as access to underlying details. Includes risk and opportunity analysis where applicable. 
  • Analyzes Depletion Allowance expense accruals vs. actual payments to distributors, including total dollars and rates per case.  Ensures appropriate DA expense recognition and accrual position.
  • Manages the Billback Team, including providing on-going coaching, feedback, and support for both the Billback Supervisor and underlying team.
  • Alongside the Billback Supervisor, represents the Billback and Accounting function in ad-hoc projects, process discussions, and ways-of-working development.
  • Actively monitors and reconciles balance sheet accounts and accrual positions, including Commissions, Depletion Allowances, Coupons, and Accrued Liabilities.
  • Coordinates with accounting during audit to ensure timely and accurate response to audit requests.
  • Proactively communicates with internal customers and coworkers, ensuring accrual financial records and facilitating understanding of financial results.
  • Investigates and corrects anomalies or inaccuracies in financial data or results.
  • Prepares management report packages and participates in ad hoc analysis projects. 

Non-Essential Duties

  • Maintain relationships and acts as a financial partner with marketing managers, sales managers and VC/DTC managers.  Works and thinks cross-functionally.
  • Serves as finance team backup for various reporting outputs, as needed.
  • Maintains relationships with various other functional management teams to ensure quality deliverables and information flow, including accounting, FP&A, Business Performance Management, HR, the Chain Team, and Marketing.
  • Act as Delicato expert on reporting systems – drive innovation and efficiencies to improve reporting.
  • Assists with the training and development of new or junior members of the cased goods finance team.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounting and a minimum of five years of experience in accounting or financial management.

Prior experience in wine or beverage alcohol business a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Familiarity with the three-tier distribution network, and shipment, depletion and scan data reporting and analysis.  Expert computer skills are required, with ability to report and analyze multi-dimensional data and complex information.  Must exhibit excellent communication skills, analytical skills and problem-solving ability. 

Working Conditions

Must be able to travel to attend sales meeting and market visits.

Operates keyboard & mouse. Required to talk & listen.
