Position Purpose

The Director, Strategic Analytics is responsible for leading a team providing analytics and insights support for the Sales and Marketing organization.  The qualified candidate is an experienced leader, skilled analytics professional, and strategic thinker with a track record of leveraging analytic insights to build brands and grow sales.  The position requires a high level of collaboration across multiple departments within Delicato as well as with our vendor, distributor, and retailer business partners.  The position will increase the utilization of our existing data and analytic tools and will lead the evolution of future analytic capabilities at Delicato Family Wines to drive category leadership and marketing excellence.

Functional Responsibility

  • Understands, communicates, and shares Company vision throughout division/organization and provide cross-functional perspective, direction, and support
  • Provides leadership and personal support; coaches, guides, nurtures and develops the right people
  • Drives Company focus, manages culture, encourages strong work ethic, and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly and defines individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, and recommends termination actions
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic, ISO, DOE and other applicable training
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment
  • Prepares and monitors department overhead budget

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for leading efforts to provide data-driven insights and recommendations that inform strategy, performance, and growth opportunities across the Sales and Marketing organization
  • Integrates information from multiple data sources, interprets into key insights, and proactively communicates clear and actionable recommendations to drive growth
  • Leads the development of business models and analytics that track performance, inform goals, and influence strategic business decisions
  • Manages the timely and accurate communication of key business reports to Sales and Marketing, while working with their team to identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Manages advanced custom analytics projects with external partners to measure the effectiveness of sales and marketing activities and provides recommendations to improve performance
  • Identifies information gaps and needs, and develops plans to create solutions that support Delicato’s position as a leader in the wine industry
  • Leads a team to work effectively to achieve success based on business objectives, providing leadership, guidance, and coaching
  • Builds strategic and collaborative relationships with the Sales and Marketing teams and external partners to achieve the role of trusted business partner
  • Develops and leads trainings with key stakeholders to grow analytics capabilities across the organization
  • Manages relationships with existing vendor partners effectively, and explores, evaluates, and recommends new analytics vendor partners and approaches to the business
  • Leads the evolution of our analytics capabilities by providing strategic direction and planning to develop a roadmap for the future

Non-Essential Duties

  • Attends and participates in divisional and national sales meetings
  • Attends chain account promotions and events when necessary
  • Remains aware of inventory levels to ensure product availability to support current programming
  • Increases level of wine knowledge through continuous education

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business with a Sales, Marketing or Statistics concentration
  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant business experience required, with a focus on business analytics

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven team leader with experience effectively managing multiple direct reports
  • Fluent in Nielsen/IRI scan data analytics, household panel, loyalty card data, and other syndicated and custom data for sales and marketing application
  • Strong understanding of how analytics impact sales and marketing effectiveness, and business strategy
  • Strong understanding of the CPG industry, retail and on-premise channels and strategies, category management, brand and shopper marketing concepts
  • Familiarity with wine industry consumer and channel data, and depletion reporting
  • Experience with marketing effectiveness measurement, including marketing mix analysis
  • Understanding of digital marketing concepts and capabilities, and awareness of emerging digital trends
  • Expert computer skills are required; strength in Excel, PowerPoint, multi-dimensional tables, and ability to report, graph and present complex information
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to translate data into insights and clear actionable recommendations to influence business strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow collaborative internal and external business relationships
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills with track record of others seeking out his / her leadership for projects
  • Strong project management skills and ability to plan and prioritize work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Solid business acumen and problem solving skills.  Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
