Consumer Insights Manager

Position Purpose

Acting on own initiative, the Consumer Insights Manager oversees initiatives for the Delicato Family Wines wine portfolio, partnering with cross-functional teams to profitably grow both established and new businesses. This role leverages a full range of insight-generating tools/methods/partners to provide actionable consumer insights that guide business strategies, facilitate better business decisions, and solve business challenges. Collaborates on the development of renovation and innovation opportunities, and well-executed launches. Simultaneously manages multiple projects with multiple partner teams.

Functional Responsibility

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the function
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies 
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Contributes to the preparation of the departmental budget and monitors spending
  • Provides immediate feedback and directly assists team to maintain level of productivity and deliver daily results
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Immediately informs management of employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions

Essential Duties

  • Partners with the Marketing team as the voice and advocate of the consumer to guide brand and portfolio strategies
  • Builds collaborative relationships with the Marketing team(s) to achieve the role of trusted thought partner and strategic advisor
  • Creates strategic learning plans that address critical business questions and insights gaps, that define the path forward for future research activity
  • Determines the optimal research solutions, vets and hires external research agencies, guides their analysis, and delivers actionable recommendations which reflect a thorough understanding of broader business context and implications
  • Manages all aspects of the research agency partnership to ensure quality execution occurs to achieve business objectives, and negotiates favorable project costs and terms for Delicato
  • Leverages traditional best-practice methodological approaches as well as new, emerging techniques; identifies and applies creative approaches which amplify learning where appropriate
  • Writes, programs, and conducts field surveys as needed, using internal DIY insights platform, and analyzes and reports on results of the consumer research
  • Manages the socialization of relevant consumer insights gleaned from Trend Resource Partners 
  • Champions understanding and application of consumer learning; provides thought leadership grounded in consumer insight and trend knowledge in alcohol beverages/wine 
  • Communicates insights via compelling business story-telling to drive business action; shares best practices from learnings to contribute to the continuous improvement of Marketing efforts

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business with a Marketing or Research concentration, or related field
  • 8+ years of relevant experience required, with a focus on consumer and shopper research

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the CPG industry, with wine industry knowledge preferred
  • Strong understanding of how consumer insights drive the development of effective marketing efforts, including digital advertising campaigns
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and techniques, and experience leading a wide array of research projects which include brand, packaging, advertising, and innovation methodologies
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with proven track record of translating key consumer learnings and insights into actionable business strategies to drive results
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to influence business strategy
  • Strong leadership skills with track record of others seeking out his/her leadership for projects
  • Demonstrated ability to build and grow collaborative internal and external business relationships
  • Strong project management skills and ability to plan and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

  • General office environment with occasional travel
  • Required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
