Assistant Public Relations and Events Manager

Position Purpose

The Assistant Public Relations and Events Manager helps manage and implement Delicato’s Public Relations (PR) and Event strategies to support Delicato’s growing portfolio of brands. The Assistant Public Relations and Events Manager will play a key role within the marketing department to develop brand awareness and secure press for brands in addition to executing events. This position will report to the Director, PR and Events and work closely with Delicato’s brand management, sales, trade marketing, international, digital marketing and samples teams, and various outside agencies and vendors, on all PR and events activities. The primary goal of this position is to manage key, ongoing departmental functions and public relations and events strategies that are consistent with brand objectives to support a 360° marketing approach.

Essential Duties

  • Works with Director, PR and Events, in developing and executing PR plans that align with Brand strategies
  • Assists in the development of communications and messaging for Brand communications such as media releases, media mailers, and editorial requests
  • Coordinates and manages events, including travel planning, wine and POS shipments, vendor management, registration, set-up, pouring, and tear-down at in-person trade and consumer events as well as liaising with event partners and internal teams to strategically promote and leverage online events with target audiences
  • Vets influencers for brand fit and compliance with all legal qualifications; liaises with legal team and agencies to secure contracts; uploads draft and final contracts to internal hub
  • Manages wine competition submissions, including creating calendars, coordinating with brand managers, registering and ordering wines; monitors, tracks and communicates results
  • Processes media sample submissions, including ordering wines, completing submission forms, tracking and communicating results; maintains scoring tracker
  • Monitors media daily for coverage; sends news alerts to brand stakeholders and compiles results for internal quarterly newsletter
  • Liaises with PR agencies to provide day-to-day support and fulfill sample requests
  • Works with Director, PR and Events to manage PR contracts and vendors, including uploading contracts to internal hub, submitting purchase order requests and submitting and tracking invoices
  • Manages the PR department subscriptions and memberships
  • Manages media lists, with an emphasis on trade, luxury, lifestyle, and bloggers
  • Assists in ensuring all communications and messaging originating in the department are consistent, accurate and grammatically correct across all channels
  • Stays current on new and emerging technologies and trends, such as virtual event platforms, social media trends and channels, online outlets, bloggers, media monitoring services, etc. and makes strategic recommendations on which ones to utilize for future efforts

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with in a Liberal Arts field, or, a trade degree with a focus on marketing, communications, journalism, or comparable discipline
  • 2+ years of related experience in marketing, communications, sales or events
  • Public relations or wine industry experience preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Excellent planning, organization, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and comfortable with public speaking
  • Enthusiastic, outgoing, detail-oriented, and teamwork-driven attitude
  • Current knowledge of media channels, especially in the online community such as bloggers and influencers
  • Ability to build cooperative and collaborative relationships with those inside and outside the department
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook

Working Conditions

  • General office environment with occasional travel
  • Required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment 
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine
  • May need to determine color, taste and smell of wine using eyes, tongue, and nose
