Lab Technician

Position Purpose

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing analysis to support wine quality.  Following standard operating procedures, this position utilizes wet-bench chemistry, analytical instrumentation and performs data entry. 

Essential Duties

  • Performs chemical analysis of grapes, juice, fermenters, wine, etc.
  • Operates analytical instrumentation according to standard operating procedures.
  • Performs data entry.
  • Makes standards and stock chemicals.
  • Samples and analyzes wine from barrels.
  • Completes daily laboratory startup including calibration of certain instruments and standardization of chemicals.
  • Completes lab shutdown following the lab SOP.
  • Executes wine fining trials.
  • Monitors inventory of lab supplies.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization within the lab.

Non-Essential Duties

  • Participates in blend evaluations, tasting panels and sensory projects.
  • Maintains a strong customer service relationship with our internal customers.
  • Pulls samples from tanks as necessary.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Education:  4 year degree in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Biology or other related science field.
  • Experience:  6+ months previous analytical lab experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organization skills, strong reading, writing and communication skills. 
  • Works well independently and in a team environment. 
  • Must be able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Thrives well under pressure and in an exciting environment. 
  • Proficient in desktop applications including Microsoft Office.
