Harvest Laboratory Intern

Position Purpose

Under general supervision, this Harvest Lab Intern is responsible for performing analysis to support wine quality. Following standard operating procedures, this position utilizes wet-bench chemistry, analytical instrumentation, performs data entry, and samples wine and juice as needed.

Functional Responsibility

Essential Duties

  • Performs chemical analysis of grapes, juice, fermenters, and wine following standard operating procedures and protocols
  • Operates various laboratory and technical instruments which may include but are not limited to auto titrators, infrared analyzers, turbidimeters, density meters, and Atomic Emission Spectroscopy
  • Samples and analyzes wine/juice in tanks and barrels
  • Maintains ISO 9001 compliance within the lab 
  • Makes standard reagents and stock solutions following standard operating procedures and protocols 
  • Performs data entry using various types of applications
  • Completes daily lab start-up and shut down following standard procedures and protocols
  • Continuously audits analytical data 
  • Maintains a strong customer service relationship with internal customers
  • Participates in blend evaluations, tasting panels and sensory projects

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Biology, or other science related field

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Works well independently and in a team environment 
  • Ability to prioritize work while adapting to changing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel 
  • Brings a positive work environment 

Certificates and Licenses

  • Acceptable driving history with valid Driver’s License

Working Conditions

  • Analytical lab in a temperature-controlled environment as well as outdoors
  • May be required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
  • Extended Hours
  • Shift Rotation
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Work at protected heights of 50’
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment 
  • May need to determine color, taste and smell of wine using eyes, tongue, and nose
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine

​California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Non-Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $19.00 to $21.00. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
