Position Purpose

The Environmental (Enviro) & Safety Ops Manager is responsible for implementing and managing environmental compliance and employee safety programs and systems to meet regulatory requirements at all Delicato facilities. This role participates in developing and/or supporting associated environmental and safety programs, systems and initiatives to manage compliance with all safety and environmental regulations, including but not limited to hazardous waste, recycling, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, ammonia and forklift telemetry. The Enviro & Safety Ops Manager continuously promotes and maintains a proactive collaborative compliance culture in the company while maintaining efficiency, safety, the wellbeing of employees, and sustainable environmental practices.

Functional Responsibility

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the function
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Develops and aligns individual goals with the department's operational goals; ensures that decisions, actions, and priorities are aligned with the company's vision, mission, and strategies
  • Researches best practices, stays abreast of industry trends, and maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Contributes to the preparation of the departmental budget and monitors spending
  • Provides immediate feedback and directly assists team to maintain level of productivity and deliver daily results
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Immediately informs management of employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions

Essential Duties

  • Promotes a collaborative leadership role in the management of applicable safety, health and environmental compliance initiatives involving orders, standards, systems, processes and compliance related to applicable ordinances, permits and certifications
  • Designs, develops and configures systematic approaches to managing applicable programs, including but not limited to hazardous waste, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, forklift safety and telemetry, recycling/ waste
  • Implements, evaluates and/or certifies effectiveness of company Enviro and Safety programs and systems through inspections and audits
  • Identifies improvement opportunities, captures, deploys and shares best practices within enviro and safety scope
  • Collaborates with cross functional leaders on applicable program and/or system requirements to teams including best practices for deployment and ongoing management
  • Conducts risk assessments by identifying and assessing potential magnitude of risk (i.e., environmental, safety, regulatory, production feasibility and quality) and creates contingency plans
  • Assists with facility gap assessments and development of corrective action plans
  • Provides subject matter expertise (SME) guidance and leadership to support company compliance with enviro and safety related rules and regulations
  • Leverages EHS data to develop goals and targets, manage scorecards, databases, and dashboards for EHS related programs and metrics
  • Develops and deploys EHS awareness and compliance training programs to all levels of employees as needed
  • Supports the application, implementation and renewal of environmental permits for all applicable winery equipment/operations
  • Compiles necessary information to prepare and submit reports to federal, state, and county regulatory agencies as required. Such reports include, but are not limited to air, hazardous materials and waste, water, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reports, ammonia and other chemical usage as may be identified
  • Maintains accurate documentation and records management as required for the EHS & Audit management system, legal, and contractual requirements
  • Acts as a company representative to professional, industry, federal, state, and local regulatory/ response agencies

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Management or related field 
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • 3+ years of safety and environmental training development, management and tracking experience


Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 30-hour OSHA GISO Construction Safety Certification, or BCSP OHST preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Facilitating team problem solving and implementation 
  • Organizational skills in order to prioritize and multi-task 
  • Computer skills (Excel, Data Management Systems, Word, AI) and the ability to apply these skills visually and analytically
  • Proficient in OSHA, U.S. EPA and California environmental regulations, codes or standards

Working Conditions

  • General office and manufacturing plant/production floor environments
  • Occasional travel
  • May frequently be required to operate a company vehicle
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Work at protected heights of 50 feet
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $95,604.48 to $149,660.64. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
