Cellar Supervisor

Work Location Delicato Vineyards Manteca 

Position Purpose

Under little or no supervision, the Cellar Supervisor is responsible for supporting the assigned work unit, as well as the mentoring and daily guidance of Cellar Team Supervisors. The position is expected to step in and provide decision-making support in the absence of the Cellar Operations Manager while promoting a team-oriented and continues improvement environment within the entire department and company. 

Functional Responsibility

  • Supervises the day-to-day operations and assigned staff in accordance with management's direction
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
  • Monitors performance and regularly communicates with team to achieve mutual understanding, maintain level of productivity, and deliver desired results
  • Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs
  • Ensures employees have a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment, provides applicable safety training and resolves/reports safety issues to management
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Immediately informs management and addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Ensures employees are trained on the policies, processes, and procedures related to functional area; maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations
  • Adheres to departmental GPS (Performance Management) guidelines and ensures proper GPS  documentation; trains employees to do the job; identifies and makes suggestions for training needs and development opportunities

Essential Duties

  • Directly supports Cellar Operations Manager’s direction to ensure Team Supervisors and the work unit meet expectations 
  • Implements Cellar processes that support business strategies adapted to winemaking requirements, wine supply conditions and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) requirements
  • Follows Company direction and verifies that all employees are participating and adhering to all aspects of Health & Safety, ISO, GMPS, and any other Customer required programs; ensures the use of current and updated documentation
  • Supports Continuous Improvement; promotes the use of performance measuring tools and utilizes collected data to set improvement standards; 
  • Supports the implementation and effectiveness of Lean initiatives and other applicable tools to ensure continuous improvement is achieved.
  • Interacts on the floor with direct assigned staff (making rounds, assisting, training, monitoring, etc.) at least 70% of the time; supports Team Supervisors as needed with coaching and support
  • Ensures adequate Team Supervisor coverage, supporting other teams or shifts, as necessary
  • Tracks attendance for Cellar personnel
  • Encourages a safe working environment by holding monthly Tailgate/Safety meetings presenting employees with ideas and suggestions for staying safe as it pertains to their working environment
  • Recommends potential staffing, facility, equipment, and process improvement for both harvest and non-harvest activities
  • Responsible for the smooth and effective exchange of information during turnovers 
  • Conducts quality checks by following up on all jobs to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Works closely with all levels of Cellar Leadership to ensure maximum utilization of resources
  • Communicates and interacts closely with the Bottling and Winemaking Planning Teams to make sure all processing requirements are clearly understood, and deadlines met; sets priorities
  • Works with Technical Trainer to assess work units’ technical skills and development needs
  • Directly participates on the development plan of team; directly supports training, as necessary
  • Serves as a technical resource within the organization
  • Directly support CapEx projects development and execution 
  • Maintains level of productivity in unit
  • Works with Maintenance personnel to repair, improve or replace equipment
  • Assists with the procurement of Cellar supplies

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 6+ years of cellar experience with extensive cellar operation knowledge
  • 3-5 years of direct supervisory or leadership experience

Working Conditions

  • General manufacturing plant/production floor environment with occasional travel
  • Required to drive automotive vehicle or equipment
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes

​ California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $68,248.08 to $106,630.56. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
