Seasonal Server at Coppola Winery

Position Purpose

The Server provides excellent food and beverage service to all guests and strives to maintain a clean, friendly environment for employees and guests to enjoy. This position is responsible for all orders and maintaining cleanliness throughout established dining areas, whether at restaurant or poolside.

Functional Responsibility

Essential Duties

  • Welcomes guests promptly in a warm and friendly manner
  • Takes food and beverage orders from guests accurately and with a positive attitude
  • Works together with culinary staff to ensure food is expedited quickly and correctly
  • Describes the selection of food and beverage menu items to guests by offering interesting, and vivid descriptions
  • Provides each menu item’s taste, origin, and preparation methods; maintains knowledge about the menu, and all ingredients
  • Provides wine presentations and recommendations
  • Inspects cleanliness and presentation of all book checks, trays, chinaware, plastic GoVino glasses, and flatware before use
  • Clears tables and resets them neatly and according to specification
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas throughout the day by clearing, collecting, and returning food and beverage items to proper areas
  • Communicates guest orders including special dietary needs, allergies, or requests to the respective staff
  • Attends line-ups and is aware of promotions and events that are going on at the winery
  • Follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up details
  • Checks in with guests to ensure satisfaction with each food course and beverage
  • Promotes restaurants, wines, tasting room, wine club and upcoming events
  • Performs side work including, but not limited to, cleaning, stocking, polishing silverware, plastic GoVino glass, folding napkins, bussing, and resetting tables and chairs
  • Takes lead in any guest issues that may arise during shift and informs management
  • Prepares checks accurately with appropriate discounts if applicable
  • Handles cash, credit, debit, and gift card transaction; ensures charges are accurate and returns correct change to guests; balances the cash register at the end of the day
  • Performs opening and closing duties as needed, including complete paperwork correctly after the end of every shift, and ensures that all tasks are carried out before the end of shift
  • Ensures that the Department areas are left clean and presentable at the end of each shift
  • Thanks guests when departing and invites them back

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 6+ months serving experience
  • Comparable restaurant service background 
  • OpenTable and DinerWare experience is a plus

Certificates and Licenses

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • TIPS Certification or Certified within 90 days of employment
  • CA Food Handlers certification required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in high paced work environment
  • Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, and prioritize

Working Conditions

  • Restaurant and pool environment
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Work in close quarters or confined spaces
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment

​California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Non-Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $16.00 to $23.03. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
